Meet the Painter: Zach Moll

Get to know the painter behind Vanora

Zach grew up in a small town in rural Nebraska in the ’90s. This community is simple at first glance but surprisingly saturated with beautiful art and talented and passionate artists. Zach was heavily influenced by these local artists and also his mother’s passion for art history. Drawing inspiration from these influences, from a very young age Zach was able to see the beauty around him every day, not just in the intentional art itself but also in the simple beauty of his surroundings. This location seems to have a sort of magnetic pull, so much so that Zach has settled in this small town with his wife and son in an old home with good bones.

Following a four year stint on the road as a musician, Zach settled down to study Graphic Design and Studio Art at Concordia University, Nebraska. It was during this time that he discovered his interest and began to foster his passion for abstract painting. Zach currently works at The Center for Liturgical Art, located at the same college he graduated from. He also works as a freelance designer in his spare time. In his personal pieces, Zach creates works from paint, earth, and clay—exploring color and form while also engaging with the theological and philosophical implications art can contain.

A couple of Zach’s strongest influences include the local artists, William Wolfram and Reinhold Marxhausen, and his modern art influences include Mark Rothko, Richard Serra, Ad Reinhardt, and Gerhard Richter.
